Although the day of the plant swap/sale was cold and windy, it was a great success and we collected the fine sum of £93.33! Upwards of 40 people came by, and by mid-day most of the plants had been taken, leaving a number of latecomers a little disappointed.

The best-sellers were, as ever, courgettes, tomatoes, strawberries, broccoli, squashes and rhubarb.

We didn’t charge for the plants – we simply asked for people’s donations. Thanks to all the people who generously supplied large quantities of their plants (Michael, Martin, Antony, Paul, Vinka, Judith, Orla and others), which definitely helped our takings. And thanks are also due to the hardworking, knowledgeable volunteers who helped to make it such a success: Angela, Judith, Helen and Anne. Judith also brought great freshly baked cake to keep us fed.

On the day of sale/swap we also collected unwanted tools on behalf of the charity Workaid, which refurbishes and redistributes them to people in need in the UK and Africa. A very impressive collection of items of all sorts was collected and the tools will be collected by the charity shortly. Thanks to everyone who donated to this excellent cause.

We were also collecting plant pots. Although a fair number were acquired, this wasn’t as successful as hoped. Perhaps a sign that we’re trying to reduce our reliance on plastic?

Finally, a big thank you is due to Vinka for organising these events in her usual efficient and hardworking manner. What would we do without her?
